Make business meaning, acceptance and rehearsal part of the migration plan from day one.
Start with meaning, not field names
Our preferred starting point is a mapping workshop with business and data owners. Similar field names do not establish that balances, dates or statuses have the same meaning. Write down transformation rules and the decisions behind them.
Agree who accepts the numbers
For each dataset, define the checks, permitted tolerances and signoff authority. Separate record-count checks, financial balancing and exception review. Engineering can produce the evidence; the appropriate business owner must accept its meaning.
Rehearse the complete cutover
We would rehearse extraction, transformation, loading, reconciliation and the decision to proceed or roll back. The objective is a measured operating procedure, with timing and ownership, rather than a script that only the author understands.
Keep evidence and exceptions together
A useful migration pack links source snapshots, transformation versions, test results and unresolved exceptions. Customer-specific records stay in authorized environments. Knowledge transfer includes how to reproduce checks and handle a late discrepancy.
Make the next step specific.
Start with a bounded assessment, a named business owner and a clear decision to be made. The final scope and responsibilities belong in the engagement agreement.
